Use-Case First
We start with the hunting problem, not the product catalog. A beginner crossbow guide, a western camo guide, and a deer checklist each use different criteria because the field needs are different.

How HuntGearGuide researches, writes, reviews, updates, and discloses hunting gear coverage.
HuntGearGuide exists to help hunters make better gear decisions before they spend money or head into the field. Our pages are written for specific hunting situations: choosing a first crossbow, packing for deer season, matching camo to terrain, comparing models, or deciding whether a product belongs in a real hunting kit.
The site is owned and edited by Charles Willcockson. Gear coverage is published under the Roy Lloyd pen name so the site keeps one consistent editorial voice across tools, reviews, buying guides, and comparison pages.
We start with the hunting problem, not the product catalog. A beginner crossbow guide, a western camo guide, and a deer checklist each use different criteria because the field needs are different.
Manufacturer specs, package contents, price, weight, width, materials, and feature claims are checked against practical questions like setup effort, carry comfort, blind use, and realistic shot distances.
A page should explain who a product is for, who should skip it, what tradeoffs matter, and what to check before buying. Product cards alone are not enough.
We do not accept payment for positive reviews, rankings, featured placement, or inclusion in a buying guide. Affiliate commission rates do not decide which products appear on a page. A recommendation has to fit the stated use case, price range, and hunting context.
When a page includes affiliate links, it also includes a disclosure. Our broader affiliate practices are explained on the Affiliate Disclosure page.
If a brand provides a product sample for review, that relationship is disclosed on the review page. A sample does not guarantee coverage, a positive result, or a specific placement. Brands do not get final approval over review copy.
Guides are reviewed when pricing changes, products are discontinued, new models become relevant, or field context changes the recommendation. Review and comparison pages include method sections where useful so readers can see why a product was considered.
